MARKEL INSURANCE NOVICE HORSE OPEN DERBY RESULTS

It’s McCutcheon for the Win

Tom McCutcheon and Gunners Rockstar topped the Markel Insurance Novice Horse Open Derby which ran concurrently with the Elementa Open Derby. Novice horses must have earned less than $25,000 as of January 1, 2021.

The duo posted a score of 223.5 after placing third in the Elementa Open Derby. Owned by White River Ag Products, Ashland, Wisconsin, the 2017 stallion is sired by Gunners Special Nite and out of Belle Starr Dun It.

Placing second in the field of 44 head with a score of 222 was Thischichasbigdreams and Abby Lengel of Burleson, Texas. The 2017 mare is sired by Magnum Chic Dream and out of Slide By Shiner and is owned by Diamond Creek Ranch, Crowley, Texas.

Third place went to TR Silver Shine shown by Gabe Hutchins with a score of 221. Owned by Tamarack Ranch of Joseph, Oregon, the 2016 mare is sired by Shine Chic Shine and out of Miss Silver Gun.
