The Tulsa Reining Classic slid into town August 25 and continues through September 1 at the Tulsa Expo Square equestrian complex. The annual event draws top competitors from across the country for a variety of classes with lucrative payouts.
That’s truer than ever in 2019 as most of the stars of Paramount Network’s series, The Last Cowboy, are in attendance and actually competing. The highly popular reality show, which chronicles riders as they prepare for the Run for A Million, has garnered record-breaking audiences and looks to be renewed in 2020.
Billed as the richest event in the history of equine sports, the Run for A Million was created by Academy Award-nominee Taylor Sheridan. In addition to his credits as writer of Hell Or High Water and Sicario, as well as writer and director of the movie Wind River, Sheridan is the co-creator of Yellowstone, a television series on the Paramount Network that has prominently featured Western performance horses.
Craig Schmersal, Cade McCutcheon, Shawn Flarida, Duane Latimer, Franco Bertolani, Tom McCutcheon, Casey Deary, Jason Vanlandingham, Abby Lengel, and Andrea Fappani will be on-
hand to meet fans at a special session on Thursday, August 29 from 4 to 6 pm. The autograph session will be held in the Ford Truck Arena concourse at Expo Square.
The Tulsa Reining Classic, which kicks of each morning at 8 am, is one of the reining industry’s premier shows, featuring six futurity and derby events. It also hosts the National Reining Horse Association’s South Central Affiliate Region Finals running concurrently with a full slate of NRHA horse show classes.
