Tulsa Reining Classic Awards Youth Titles

(Tulsa, Okla., Sept. 2, 2016) – The Tulsa Reining Classic continued with fast action and sharp runs at Expo Square in Tulsa, Oklahoma. On Saturday the kids of reining were center stage with the National Reining Horse Association Youth 14-18, NRHA 13 & Under, NRHA Rookie Youth, NRHA 10 & Under Short Stirrup, USA Reining Youth 13 & Under, USA Reining 14-18 and Youth Reining Horsemanship.

Molly Mitchell and Playgun Chic Olena won the NRHA Youth 14-18 with a score of 146, winning $83. Playgun Chic Olena is by Smart Chic Olena out of Mamas Packin. Mitchell has had the gelding for two years and he showed his best on Saturday in the Super Duty Arena.

“He was really solid,” Michell said. “I was nervous about his circles, because I couldn’t really get him to run in the warm-up pen, but I got him going around in the show pen.”

Blair Thompson and Whiz N Chica Dee (Topsail Whiz x Chic A Dee Hickory) won the reserve title in the NRHA Youth 14-18, and the USA Reining Youth 14-18 title with a score of 144.50.

Madison Gustin riding Guns R Spooky won the NRHA Youth 13 & Under and the NRHA Rookie Youth with a score of 143. Guns R Spooky is by Smart Spook out of Berry Yer Guns, and Gustin said the gelding really stepped up for his rider today.

“I’m very happy he was much better today than he was yesterday,” Gustin said. “He was one of the best he’s ever been today and I’m very happy. He listened to my every move.”

Raeanna Thayn rode Coded N Karma (Electric Code x Whiz N Snap) won second in the NRHA Youth 13 & Under with a score of 142.

Matthew Tullock rode Smart Colonel Tom (Smart By Chic x Colonels Ms Tommy) to second place in the NRHA Rookie Youth with a score of 134.50.

Andie Wells rode The Ultimate Magnum (Magnum Chic Dream x Queen De La Club) to a score of 142 to win the USA Reining Youth 13 & Under.

Second place went to Carlee McCutcheon riding Shiney Enterprise (Smart And Shiney x My Royal Enterprise) to a score of 141.

The NRHA 10 & Under Short Stirrup champion was Jacob Harris riding Forest Cabin Cowboy to a score of 70.50. Forest Cabin Cowboy is by Master Cowboy Jac out of Forest Cabin Moon and Harris said his mount is enjoyable to be around. They’ve been partners for about a year and were able to put a run together Saturday for a win.

“It felt very exciting,” Harris said of his run. “He came up and went around to the left side of the arena and whenever he stopped it felt amazing.”

Colt Mitchell rode Surprise Easter Kid (The Great Kid x Little Stormy Chex) to share the second place win with Ainsley Larcombe riding This Rose Will Shine (Twice As Shiney x Cross Over Rosie) with a score of 70.

Taking home the Youth Horsemanship championship was Becca Schaffhauser riding Dunitwithasmokingun with a score of 69. Dunitwithasmokingun is by Colonels Smoking Gun out of Dun It Doll.

“He’s a really good boy,” Schaffhauser said of her 18-year-old mount and her favorite thing about him is that he “listens a lot.”

Isabella Martin rode Mo Mega (Marthas Mega Jac x Lenas Ruby Chex) took home second place with a score of 68.50.

Entering the Walk/Trot Reining class was Josie Torpey riding Snip O Satellite, Jocelyn Anderson riding A Girls Best Friend, Courtney Kincaid riding Little Red Rawheidi, and Wyatt Lipps riding Nu Chexz Lady.

Ending the night for the kids was the Youth Lead Line and Youth Open Freestyle, which garnered applause and cheers from the crowd.
