(Tulsa, Okla., Sept. 2, 2016) – Since 2005, the Tulsa Reining Classic has played host to the National Reining Horse Association’s South Central Affiliate Regional Championships. On Friday, September 2, the Affiliate Reining Championships Novice Horse Open Levels 1 and 2 were crowned in the Super Duty Arena at Expo Square in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
With a score of 140.50, Sterling Slemp and Todd Martin shared the win in the Novice Horse Open Level 1 Affiliate Regional Championships.
Sterling Slemp rode the 13-year-old Miss Magnum Dream, who is by Magnum Chic Dream out of Miss Shady Pine, for owner Rashel Forgey. Slemp has been working all week to get the mare prepared for the show and is excited about the win as well as the mare’s future.
“She showed real nice and honest for me,” Slemp said. “I’ve had her for about a year now and we’re just putting a record on her getting ready to make her a momma.”
Todd Martin rode Wimpchester 73 for owners Tim and Terri Prickett and a 6-year-old son of Wimpys Little Step out of Whiz N Darlin. Wimpchester 73 usually serves as Terri Prickett’s rookie horse, however while Martin was schooling on him throughout the year the duo was able to get qualified for the Tulsa Reining Classic. With the qualification both Martin and the Pricketts hoped to use the TRC to get Wimpchester 73 qualified for Oklahoma City.
“He was really good for me,” Martin said. “We’ve been here all week long getting him ready and it all kind of hit right. He was really good and real honest and stayed right between my reins on me. It was a good run I enjoyed it.”
With a score of 143.50, Jared Leclair rode Dun Sneakin Out to claim the Novice Horse Open Level 2 Affiliate Regional Championships, for owners Robert and Robin Thayn.
“She’s a mare that my Non Pro [client] shows and my youth kid shows and she’s real easy to show,” Leclair said. “We’d qualified her for the affiliate and she showed really good. It was a lot of fun.”
Dun Sneakin Out is a 5-year-old mare who is by Whiz N Tag Chex out of Sneaking Out Tonight.
